Open Studio: Fall 2015

Starting September 23, explore anthropology and social science in the Grainger Digital Media Studio, the Field Museum’s teen hang-out space. We’ll be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-7PM.  Come once or return every week to design your own digital media project.

Wednesdays: Gaming Through the Ages

Explore ancient civilizations in the new Cyrus Tang Hall of China, The Ancient Americas, & Inside Ancient Egypt. Afterwards, play a board game based on an ancient civilization. After exploring the exhibits and games, use the technology tools in the Grainger Digital Media Studio to design pieces to use for table-top gaming, create remixes or modifications to existing games, or design a prototype of a brand new game.

Thursdays: Shadow Puppet Studio

View a shadow puppet performance of Journey to the West in the Cyrus Tang Hall of China and learn about shadow puppet techniques by taking a look behind the scenes. Afterwards, work on your own shadow puppet or performance. Then use the technology tools in the Grainger Digital Media Studio to design your own shadow puppet characters, cut them out using our new vinyl cutting machines, and record and edit a performance.

You’ll have access to digital design software (including Adobe Creative Cloud and 3D design software), 3D printers, vinyl cutters, iPads, MacBook Pros, and video production equipment.

Teens can enter through the West Door of the Museum, and must be at least 14 years old to participate. A snack will be provided and Ventra assistance is available upon request.

Find exact dates and times on the Field Museum website.
